Dropshipping SEO: A Beginners’ Guide

As a dropshipper, what things do you need to know before building your website? There are plenty of things such as how to source products, how to find suppliers, and how to get a dropshipping tool. However, it’s not all. There is one more thing: how to use search engine optimization (SEO) for your business.

Dropshipping sites have a unique set of SEO hurdles to overcome than a store owns inventory, so you must know how to use SEO. Thus, here I will share a guide for beginners who are unfamiliar with the concept.

What to Know First?

Before you learn how to use SEO in your business, there is one thing you need to note first: There are many important pieces of the puzzle.

Google itself is becoming more sophisticated in analyzing high-quality content, so dropshippers need to understand the different characteristics algorithms use to rank content. In other words, SEO is not simply stuffing content with as many optimized keywords as possible. It's also about writing high-quality articles that share informative knowledge and present useful information to readers.

I will introduce two main SEO types in this guide: on-page SEO and off-page SEO. It only includes very basic information, I think all people who have never heard of SEO might know what I am talking about.

On-page SEO

As its name on-page shows, it refers to optimizations happening on your online pages. In other words, on-page SEO is used to optimize your website pages to get a higher ranking and earn more relevant traffic in search engines.

On-page SEO includes both the content and HTML source code of a page that we can optimize. For example, when you want to publish an article on your site or just an introduction of your products, you need to write readable and informative Meta Title, Meta Description, and even Title Tags. The better your meta information is, the more clicks you will get. In other words, with better meta information, your site content is easier to get ranked higher.

Off-page SEO

What is Off-page SEO? It’s also called off-site SEO. As its name suggests, off-page SEO refers to actions taken outside of your website to influence your ranking in search engine results pages (SERPs). Apart from on-page SEO, it’s another way that helps a website rank including some basic SEO factors.

Optimizing off-site ranking basic factors include increasing search engine and user perceptions of your site's visibility, relevance, popularity, trustworthiness, and authority. It is accomplished by getting links or promotions of your site through other reputable places on the Internet like pages, sites, people, etc.

Note: Building backlinks( getting links from other sites) is the key part of off-site SEO. Search engines use backlinks as an indicator of the quality of the content being linked. Therefore, a site with a lot of high-value backlinks will usually rank better than a site with fewer backlinks otherwise. In addition, it’s an easy way for beginners to start since many people now increase their site rankings. Hence, there are more opportunities for you to try out.

Conclusion

Here I just introduce the two SEO ways briefly. However, I think it’s enough for newcomers. If you have already known much about SEO, you can go MOZ blog to learn deep information about SEO, SEO factors, and SEO strategies.
